[haʊs], Edward Mandell, genannt Colonel House [kəːnl-], amerikanischer Politiker, * Houston (Texas) 26. 7. 1858, ✝ New York 28. 3. 1938; demokratischer Politiker in Texas; vertrauter Berater Präsident W. Wilsons, der ihn im Ersten Weltkrieg mehrfach auf Vermittlungsmission nach Europa sandte. House hatte starken Einfluss auf die amerikanische Außenpolitik während des Krieges. Er war als amerikanischer Unterhändler an den Waffenstillstands- und an den Pariser Friedensverhandlungen beteiligt, wobei es aufgrund tief greifender Meinungsverschiedenheiten über die Verhandlungsführung 1919 zum Bruch zwischen ihm und Wilson kam.
